Understanding Route Conditions
Route conditions reported by ArDOT maintenance crews are categorized as follows:
Clear - travel lanes are free of snow, ice and slush. All traffic can proceed at a safe, normal speed.
Mostly Clear - travel lanes are clear but ribbons of snow, ice or slush remain on the centerline stripes and shoulders. The majority of traffic can proceed at a safe, normal speed.
Partly Covered - up to half of each travel lane is covered with snow, ice or slush. Caution advised when traveling.
Covered - more than half of each travel lane is covered with snow, ice or slush. Travel is not advised.
Clearing Suspended - conditions have reached a level of intensity that continuation of operations would prove ineffective or would pose an undue safety risk for AHTD maintenance crews. Travel is strongly discouraged.
Closed - an operational closure has been declared locally by the District Engineer (and in consultation with the local Arkansas State Police Troop Commander) so crews can work to improve route conditions and facilitate the movement of traffic. Travel on this route is not permitted until further notice.
